The School at Karubabi, Muramvya
The Karubabi Harvest School in Karubabi, Burundi has become a beacon of hope in the province Muramvya. In a country long plagued by ethnic divisions and severe poverty, the school is helping bring ethnic groups together, providing meals for kids who otherwise wouldn't have any, and raising up a generation, who for the first time, are receiving an education.
This school has the potential to transform a community; to bring unity amongst the ethnic groups; to raise leaders who will transform their world for Jesus. And already this is happening. ~ Doug & Deanna Hiebert
Our Project This Year - Bringing Light to the Darkness
Every year we ask Karubabi Harvest School to identify a physical need that we could help address with 10-15k dollars. This year they identified providing solar lamps for each students as a goal for our Giving Project.
Burundi is located very close to the equator which means the sun goes down early all year round. Since many of the students walk a long distance to get to school, it is often dark by the time they get home. A majority of the students are living in homes with little or no access to electricity and cannot afford other options for providing consistent light at home. Having a solar lamp will create the opportunity for kids to read and do school work at home which has a significant impact on the quality of their education. The solar lamps we are purchasing for this project are sold in Burundi, which eliminates shipping costs and helps contribute to the Burundian economy.
Any additional funds raised beyond necessary for reaching this goal will go towards the continued filling of the library that was started last year with our 2017 Giving Project.
